Krayolas join Augie Meyers tribute

The Krayolas are part of the official concert lineup for the “Remembering Augie Meyers” tribute show at Stable Hall at The Pearl on Sunday, May 31. The concert lineup includes Jimmie Vaughan, Ray Benson and Joe King Carrasco. Hours are 6-9 p.m.
Meyers, who died March 7, 2026, would’ve turned 86 on Sunday. The Stable Hall event is the first public memorial since the passing of the legendary founding member of the Sir Douglas Quintet and Texas Tornados.
The Krayolas are expected to perform “Little Fox,” the Augie Meyers-penned track which blew up in 2007. Meyers wrote the song for the Sir Douglas Quintet in the late 1960s. He gave it to Krayolas frontman and songwriter Hector Saldana in late 2006 to arrange and agreed to play on it. Meyers’ only instructions were to “make it sound like the Krayolas.”
Recorded live at Blue Cat Studio in early August 2007, “Little Fox” became a regional hit after its English lyrics were replaced with Spanish lyrics written by Saldana’s mother, Hilda Guerrero. Max Baca added bajo sexto, completing the transformation. Ricky Davila at KEDA-AM was the first to spin the track. The first public performance of “Little Fox” happened at the Cove on August 18, 2007 with Augie Meyers joining on Vox organ.
About the making of “Little Fox” in 2007: “I remember during the first playback, I told my brother that I was going to yell, ‘Take it, Augie!’ before the organ solo just like Doug Sahm,” Hector Saldana recounted. ” We laughed. I almost lost my nerve during the next take, but I went for it. It’s a cherished memory.”
The Krayolas will take the stage at Stable Hall in the wake of another SiriusXM Outlaw Country hit, “Exit Salida” featuring Augie Meyers on Vox organ. The song spent most of March, April and early May 2006 on the Top 40 Most Played Songs on SiriusXM Outlaw Country channel 62. It reached No. 18 in the ranking.
