SAN ANTONIO – Summer fun in the sun gets turned up to 11 with “Summertime Boys” by the Krayolas. Growling electric guitars, funky bass lines, a groovy electric piano and sassy sunshine harmonies reflect their love for the Beach Boys, Dwight Twilley and The Who.

Recorded in one breakneck afternoon session in early July 2026, “Summertime Boys” is the lead single from the new compilation album by the Krayolas, “Outlaw Garage Hits!”

It’s pure Krayolas outlaw garage rock music.

The collection rocks and is comprised only of songs which have recently been in heavy rotation or received repeated airplay on popular SiriusXM Satellite Radio channels like Little Steven’s Underground Garage, Outlaw Country and Stevie’s Coolest Songs, as well as indie radio and NPR affiliates.

“Summertime Boys” is the cherry on top of one helluva year, which makes “Outlaw Garage Hits!” one helluva playlist.

In the last 12 months, the Krayolas have twice had songs in heavy rotation and ranked for extended periods in the Top 20 Most Played Songs on SiriusXM Outlaw Country on the channel’s most popular shows.

“Under One Roof” peaked at No. 14 and “Exit Salida” peaked at No. 18 with drive-time spins on Elizabeth Cook’s Apron Strings, Shooter Jennings’ Electric Rodeo, Outlaw Country with Paula Nelson, The Buddy & Jim Show with Buddy Miller and Jim Lauderdale, The Sunny Side of Life with Sunny Sweeney and Dallas Wayne in Outlaw Country. A third song, “Surf’s Down” received notable airplay on Outlaw Country after the passing of Brian Wilson.

Most recently, “V-RROOM!” – the powerpop origin story of the Krayolas — landed in the Top 10 Most Played Songs ranking on SiriusXM’s Stevie’s Coolest Songs channel. Picked by legendary Steven Van Zandt, “V-RROOM!” peaked at No. 9 on the channel in June 2026.

Additionally, original songs “King of Pop,” “Catherine,” “Aw Tonight,” “Gonna Walk Downtown,” “Alex,” “Giddy Up Santa” and “Tex-Mex Rudolph” were mainstays on SiriusXM’s Little Steven’s Underground Garage in 2025 and 2026.

“Summertime Boys” brims with love and harmony to kick off the electric 14-song collection.

Written and produced by Hector Saldana, “Summertime Boys” features Hector on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, brother David Saldana on harmony vocals, drums and tambourine and three of Hector’s sons: Jason Saldana on harmony vocals and electric bass, Nicky Saldana on harmony vocals and lead guitar and Tony Saldana on low harmony vocals. Luvine Elias of the Royal Jesters plays Wurlitzer electric piano.

Half a century ago, a radio hits collection like “Outlaw Garage Hits!” would’ve been a teenage fantasy for the Saldana Bros. The dream began in earnest in February 1977 when Hector and David’s dad came home from work one evening and told them that he’d found a recording studio and that the Krayolas were going to make a record, “All I Do Is Try”/”Sometime.”

Much has changed in the world, but these things have always been true about the Krayolas: Family, fun and an avalanche of enduring rock and roll.

Besides self-penned gems, “Outlaw Garage Hits!” includes three of the Krayolas acclaimed hit collaborations with Augie Meyers of the Sir Douglas Quintet and the Texas Tornados. “Little Fox,” “Exit Salida” and the rare “We’ve Got a Secret” pay tribute to Meyers, who died in March 2026. Groovy covers of Bob Dylan’s “All I Really Want to Do” and Lesley Gore’s “Maybe I Know” sweeten the mix of discoveries.

Rock critic Dave Marsh once called the Krayolas the last of the original Chicano garage rockers. Long may they run.
